The ensemble formed in Summer 2004 by enthusiastic tango dancers, giving an official frame to the the already on-going ad hoc performances. The team headed by chreographer Laszlo BUDAI has put three pieces on stage until mid-2005.
"House of Dona Lucrezia" is a hybrid theatre-and-dance piece. The story takes place in an indefinite time period around the turn of the century, introducing the viewers in the everyday life of an exclusive brothel.
The basis of the play itself was inspired by the movie "La casa del amor". The dances are connected by a play without dialogue. Originally it was performed with live music and some narration at the Fonó, and later on, without the orchestra, at the National Dance Theater.
"Seasons in Buenos Aires" is a full featured dance piece, mixing stage tango, stage dancing, contemporary techniques and other styles as well. The piece was inspired by the music of Astor Piazzolla and was performed with live music in 2002 at the National Dance Theater for half a year with full house. As the Dance Theater could not reach an agreement with the management company funding the piece it was taken off the programme for the next season. However, in 2004 it was performed again in the National Dance Theater and other venues.
In January 2005 the National Dance Theater, supported by the National Cultural Fund, produced a new piece with the participation of the ATDT and well-known dancers like Péter NÉMETH, Beatrix LAJTAI, Veronika VÁMOS, titled "Tango Express". The choreographers of the piece were László BUDAI, Béla FÖLDI, Miriam FRIEDRICH. This show is on the programme of the National Dance Theater continously with full house.
The members of the ATDT also perform parts of these shows separately.
